Speech Therapy for All Ages

At Alternatives ABA, our highly specialized therapists are trained to provide speech and language therapy services for clients of all ages with multiple disabilities — often during already scheduled days at the center. Our multidisciplinary approach means that clinicians from ABA, speech-language pathology (SLP), and occupational therapy (OT) work together when kids receive those services. Incorporating each other’s interventions and goals means faster progress and better outcomes!

Speech Therapy for Toddlers

Speech Therapy for Toddlers

When speech therapy begins before the age of five, children tend to improve their speech and language skills more easily. Our therapists help toddlers formulate words and express themselves so they’re understood, even by strangers.

Alternatives ABA has treated young adults with many different needs and diagnoses. Our Augmentative and Alternative Communication evaluation intervention techniques have enabled clients to interact effectively and enjoy vibrant social lives.

Evidence-Based Speech Therapy

Our team of speech and language pathologists practices evidence-based speech therapy. They believe that functional communication is essential to leading the best possible life — and that learning new skills should be fun. Our speech therapy includes comprehensive speech and language evaluations, language-based social skills groups, workshops for caretakers and outside providers, feeding and swallowing programs, and intervention techniques and treatment.

Speech Therapy Assessments

In order to get optimal treatment for your child, our specialists may need to leverage more than one of these speech assessments:

Speech and Language Delay

When a child isn’t developing speech and language at an expected rate, the reasons aren’t always immediately apparent. That’s why our therapists administer evidence-based speech and language delay assessments.

Language Disorder

This assessment detects issues with the comprehension and/or use of spoken, written, and other forms of language that cause children to struggle with the form, content, or function of language.

Articulation Disorder

For clients who have trouble articulating certain types of sounds, who substitute one sound for another, or who struggle with indistinct speech, this assessment helps therapists understand how to teach the manipulation of articulators to share thoughts.

Motor Speech Disorder

This assessment detects speech disorders like dysarthria and apraxia, which are rooted in neurological damage that affects the motor control of speech muscles or motor programming of speech movements.

Pragmatic Language Impairment/Disorder

Pragmatic language disorders affect a child’s understanding of how language is used in social contexts. Our specialists can assess a child’s ability to understand the meaning behind verbal and/or nonverbal language.

Feeding and Swallowing Disorders

Some children may have difficulty preparing to suck, chew, or swallow food, or may not be able to completely close their lips to prevent food from falling out. Others may experience a sensory aversion to textures of certain food.

Multiple Disabilities

The requirements for becoming a therapist at Alternatives ABA are quite stringent. That’s because we want to ensure that every client, no matter how severe or numerous their disabilities, gets the best therapy possible.
